Research notes
The original instructions state that the rider steers the wheel to and fro in order to startle his timid bride in the car and to keep her from getting out despite her lively waving and standing up. Nanni was the nickname of one of Lehmann 's sisters. We have the early model (until 1913) in which the bride's hat has a brim. The paper handkerchief is original. The Tricycle was sold separately as EPL471 Mars (this is printed on the toy). Pat. DRP 125130 (1903) covers the movement of the bride. The box shows Pat. USA 12 May 1903, 22 Jan 1907 and the names of the toy in various languages, including russian. There is an unmarked french version of the toy with the original name "La Fiancée Inquiète"
