Research notes
Available in several colour variations; The toy consists of two glass bulbs connected by a tube. The Head: Covered in a fuzzy, felt-like material that absorbs water. The Body/Tail: A larger bulb at the bottom. The Fluid: A volatile liquid, typically methylene chloride, which evaporates and condenses very easily at room temperature. How the Cycle Works: 1. Evaporation & Cooling: You start the process by wetting the bird's head. As water evaporates from the felt, it cools the glass head. 2. Condensation & Pressure Drop: The cooling causes the methylene chloride vapor inside the head to condense back into a liquid. This condensation creates a partial vacuum (lower pressure) in the head. 3. Liquid Rise: Because the pressure in the bottom bulb is now higher than the pressure in the head, the liquid is pushed up the neck tube toward the head. 4. The Tip: As the head fills with liquid, the bird's center of gravity shifts forward.
