JATO & PEPE
Trademark: JATO & PEPE
In 1930, José Augusto Júnior set up a new factory and was a pioneer in Portugal in manufacturing the first ribbon-wound clockwork toy. In 1946, "JAJ" relocated to Ermesinde for proximity to the railway, which it used to distribute toys across the country. The company was renamed "A Industrial de Quinquilharias de Ermesinde" and, in 1955, changed its name again to "Fábrica de Artigos em Plástico JATO de José Augusto Júnior," adopting the acronym "JATO." It was during this period that icons such as the Mercedes taxis, the VW "bread van" toys and miniature stoves appeared. After 1977, management passed to José Augusto Júnior's sons, who adopted the brand PEPE (or PE-PE), continuing the tradition to this day under the name Bruplast.
