In automatic mode, the car shifts from neutral to first and then to second gear. The car then stops again and reverses, with a red light bulb on the dashboard lighting up with each shift. The push-button gearstick can also be operated manually from the dashboard, with the automatic drive switch located above the rear bumper. The model can be steered via the steering wheel as well as via the manual control unit and has not been reissued since it was discontinued in 1969.

Research notes

The toy is based on the Packard Hawk lauched in 1957 (but the convertible version was never commercialized), which was dropped in 1958 along with the Packard name; made in lime green, red and cream; we have the older version, a red stripe on top of the doors; the operating time can be extended to 60 hours using the Schuco fuel pump 5506 and the Schuco transformer 5980 (side hole)

Notes

Side mirror missing; two original wooden pegs missing (three new); some rust in battery compartment; the light of the gear does not always work
